Because I cannot shoot you on my blog when you act like a dick . . .
Posted by myg

It is with deep regret that our new comments policy goes into effect. From now on, all comments will need to be approved by us before they appear.
I was really trying to avoid this because for the vast majority of you, I want to encourage your comments. But I also want to keep the peace and avoid being fucked with, which sadly means at the moment we need to lock the door and set a secret password.
For those of you who would like to continue to leave comments here, the new password is, “Don’t be a dick.” If that one malfunctions, try “Shut the fuck up and go away if you don’t like us.”
Think of it this way. If you were to come to my house and shit on my carpet, I would ask you to leave. If you come to my blog and leave comments designed to be insulting, disruptive and irritating, I’ll do the same. Because while I believe there’s no reason to take shit from people, anytime or anywhere, there certainly is no reason to take it online.
I am all for free speech. But my blog is mine. If you want to criticize me, by all means, go make your own blog and do it.

Wow? What happened? Who should I shoot?
Um, guess!
Need claws? I can help!
thanks timothy
I suppose I should just feel grateful for the attention even if some is a little negative. And I don’t mind people who criticize me, to be honest, it does make me think about things (sometimes–ha!).
I just don’t intend to put up with nonsense, ie; “what you are doing is stupid and pointless” and I certainly don’t want to help publicize things I don’t like by letting people abuse my comments section–not when it’s easy enough for people to do their own web publicity.
thanks for the support!
You know, I believe that there is a Wordpress plugin which allows one to shoot commenters in the face. It requires a small change to the comment function, to activate the function shoot_in_the_face($wanker). I cannot for the moment recall where it resides, but I am sure it is findable.
Wow–a Wordpress weapon?! I will see if I can track that down and will report back here how it works. Many thanks for the tip, OM, and might I extend wishes of good luck to Iron Plato in the upcoming SLelections. Even if he’s going to lose to Romana Wei.
We’re of pretty much the same mind here, Myg, except that I may be a little more tolerant of rannygazoo in my comments before I drop the Banhammer. My attitude is and always has been, “There may be free speech, but there is no free lunch. You want to make a speech, get your own blog; I run this one and I don’t have to keep your bloviations here if I don’t want them.” See also my Rules of the Road for further details.
I try to be tolerant of plenty of nonsense, but I just don’t see any valid reason to keep shit here that bothers me. That’s like hanging a picture of someone I don’t like on my wall. If I can’t throw darts at it, all it’s doing is irritating me, and God knows I’m irritable enough as it is. I’ll check out your rules of the road Erbo, and maybe develop some of my own too that are a little more constructive than “don’t be a dick.” Or more explanatory anyway. Thanks for stopping by.
Hmmm. I have askimet. And that comments with an url inside it get automatically moderated too (as Askimet is far from perfect).
Besides anything that’s broadly offensive goes. Of course, as it’s my blog, I define what is ‘broadly offensive’. Should you disagree with one of the comments on my blog, are should you feel insulted by one of them, you can always file an AR at this-one-i-never-check@vintfalken.com
Vint, I do have Akismet and that works reasonably well. Thing is, someone actually got an IP scrambler and kept commenting after being banned. Persistence in antisocial behavior bordering on psychopathology, to be sure. But that was the inspiration for comment moderation. Fun times!
I
LOL my last comment got self-censored
it should have read:
“I (heart) Myg (and hope this doesnt get censored)”
But dummy as I am I used the “lesser than” symbol and it broke the HTML so the rest is hidden. ^^
I was wondering if that was the problem, Codie. I figured it was either that or you were feeling particularly philosophical and making some existential statement.
I think “I” was a repeated statement in the bizarre final episode of the 1967 British TV show “The Prisoner”
Comments should be moderated and approved before posting it. The problem with some people is that they can’t criticize constructively. IMHO, approval and moderation are not censorship but rather a way to keep the discussion decent, civil, informative and understandable.
i think your perfectly justified in doing this, i sometimes caught those comments and they really are pointless and stupid. its nice to have people disagree with you but not when its childish griefing. so i say go ahead and filter does comments ^^
Censorship does not apply to personal blogs because you do not restrict others from starting their own blogs. If you had *that* kind of power….uhm….then I humbly request a job in your “re-education camps” or perhaps even girlwithguns defense secretary Zoe Connolly. Yeah I like the way that sounds.
*Burgess makes a note to push for Connolly as defense secretary and Meriman as chief of secret police.
But if we lose, Romana and I are pushing for cabinet posts where we can drink all day and get laid. Romana suggested FEMA. Anybody want to take us up on that?
(That’s the US Federal Emergency Management Agency, for you non-Amerikans)
I can see my fence from here.
baah i am sorry myg, it had to come to this. there are always some tools out there, whom’s obession start and ends at someone elses expenses.
gala hearts myg
gala! thanks for stopping by darlin. it’s okay, we live with comments moderation. that way we can keep dickheads out, and i’m okay with that.
very interesting, but I don’t agree with you
Idetrorce
so?
