Does that look like I’m looking back to last night’s awesome party or just some poseur trying to show his “good” side? Don’t answer that.
Here is the podcast and setlist from the new music hour:

Jump below the fold for some ridiculous commentary on each of these newly minted tracks.
Interpol – Mammoth (from Our Love to Admire)
Despite my criticism last week, Interpol’s major label debut appeared immediately at #4 on the Billboard charts. Cheers to them; this track is my fave so far off the album.
The National – Mistaken for Strangers (from Boxer)
Admittedly a band I have not listened to as much out of a reaction to the hype they get, as to a general feeling of blandness when I’ve sampled other tracks. This tune changed that for me. I’m going to go listen and re-listen to their output and see what else I’ve missed. This is one of the sticky ones.
Battles – Atlas (from Mirrored)
NYC’s Battles do what most bands strive for with apparent ease—getting a truly original sound out of the tried and true guitar-bass-drums-vocals setup. Check out the video for this track here and see creativity in motion from these gents.
Your Black Star – The Break (from Beasts, on Hawthorne Street Records)
A track with a post-punk sound that recalls a harder side of 80s alternative rock. Sound is everything here, and as much as the singer intones he’s breaking out, he doesn’t sound confident as much as he sounds determined. Gimme angst! Oh, and need I say it? Louisville, KY. Righteous.
Holy Fuck – Lovely Allen (from their eponymous EP)
I need to see this band on a bill with Holy Shit. As an instrumental, it’s unclear if this is a compliment to Allen, tongue-in-cheek sarcasm, or a paean to Allen, who is lovely. It doesn’t really matter, because the controlled bombast of the track is just what I need to clear my head on a daily basis. Too bad we just missed them at Glastonbury and their northeast North American tour with !!!.
Para One – Midnight Swim
A funky editing job of a groovy track from French producer Jean-Baptiste de Laubier that does indeed make me want to swim laps in the middle of the night. Party at the pool, people.
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah – Satan Said Dance (from Some Loud Thunder)
Yeah. Blog rock. I shit you not. Like Eno-era Talking Heads mashed up with 99 Records’ darlings ESG. As familiar as it is though, you’ve never heard this before. Get it now. Get up and bop your tape-bridged glasses, shuffle your way to the East side.
LCD Soundsystem – Someone Great (from Sound of Silver)
Man the 80s are back with a vengeance—someone has been listening to their OMD.
Somehow fitting for a cool kid from Princeton Junction, NJ. The band’s sound is maturing. This is a track about a dead friend, so it’s far less funny than James’ earlier work, but what it lacks in snark it makes up for in tweaky beauty.
Spoon – Black Like Me (from Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga)
Let’s hear it for an indie band debuting at #10 on the Billboard charts! Congrates to Chapel Hill’s Merge Records. Is this the album that will finally win the band and label mainstream recognition and a wider audience? Will you hate it if it does? Not me, I can tell you that.
Les Savy Fav – What Would Wolves Do?
The hardest working man in indie rock. His output may be less than Britt Daniels, but anyone who has ever seen them can attest to, Tim Harrington can get a crowd’s attention and hold it like I’ve only ever seen Ian Mackaye do.
The Moths – Games
What the Buzzcocks wish they could still do. What I wish the Buzzcocks could still do. Welcome to the world, Moths. (In fact, the West London band does a hawt cover of the ‘cocks “You Say You Don’t Love Me, whodathunk?)
Kings of Leon – My Third House (B side of the Fans single)
Move outta tha way. Genre-defying funk, punk, soul, and rock the likes of which the sons of a defrocked southern preacher could only produce. God bless America.
Christopher Roberts – Blood on Our (I can’t figure out where this came from, it’s that new.)
Shit yeah. Screaming garage punk meets Casio breakbeats.
Tranzmitors – Plastic Genocide (from Some Girls)
What the Dickies would sound like if they were from Vancouver? Sounds like Stukas over the Lookout to me, but fun nevertheless.
The 1990s – See You at the Lights (single)
A much lighter pop tune than I’m normally drawn to, but this one is infectious. The sweetest anthem in years. Everybody Wang Chung tonight.

These sets are rocking my world, Alex! Thanks for battling the lag and serving it up again!
….and wherever did you find that *hawt* bartender?!
I heart these podcasts!! So cool being able to listen while at work and catch tunes I might have missed the night before, either due to conversations, or lag, etc.
That Para One track is an instant favourite! And LCD Soundsystem? Well, you can never go wrong there.
Careful, Alex. That huge speaker might burst your eardrum! LMAO
What?
