(n)eXt podcast from 7/30/07

Sable stylish as always last night, lookin’ hot and soakin’ up the new new newness. I dunno, but I’m digging the argyle here. Kinda like Glinda in high school before she got too goody-goody.
Here’s the podcast and setlist from the 30 July (n)eXt new music hour:

The National – Fake Empire (from Boxer)
A band I’ve done a 180 on. They left me pretty cold at first. Possibly too subtle for me to pay them enough attention. I dunno. But gradually I’ve come around. The latest album, Boxer, is a work of art. The band played this track July 24 on Letterman and did a helluva job.
The Enemy – You’re Not Alone
Um, they’re singing about empire here too, so it seemed like good follow up. They sing like real Brits and they’re from Coventry. Have a fuckin’ pint and rock out.
Against Me! – White People For Peace
A protest song about protest songs, and catchy as all hell. Better than the name or the title.
Tiger Army – Ghosts of Memory
Somehow these guys get described as “psychobilly,” I dunno about “psycho” but solid pop-punk though. I know, it’s the g-dung-ga-dung sped-up C&W rhythm that earns the label. In the end the only thing that matters is that you like it, because if you like it, it’s good. Right?
Made Out of Babies – Ire Fire
Okay, I’m reaching. Trying to find some harder stuff to throw into the mix. Y’all are getting the impression that I’ve gone soft in my old age. I’m not sure this does it.
Aesop Rock – Coffee
The best rap about my favorite drink. On tour, see him live before he gets huge.
Kid Sister – Southside
Wha what? Southside. They’re talking Chicago, but it works for Topgol, too.
Modeselektor –The White Flash
Thom Yorke lays down the vocal track here, and while I’m a huge Radiohead fan, I’m not sure it helps this track. But the name sure makes the critics sit up and pay attention. Instrumentally sound.
Metric – Hardwire
It’s all about Emily Haines. The rest of the guys are great and would prolly make worthwhile music in any incarnation, but they got it right in sticking with her. Plenty o’ charazma.
Minus The Bear - Throwin’ Shapes
This one is for Wrath. Because I’m like that. West Coast, reprezent.
Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Kiss Kiss
From the Is Is EP. Karen O keeps living up to her hype. Check out this YouTube vid of them playing this live.
Tegan and Sara – The Con
I like this song. You like this song. I feel T&S are a little bit of a guilty pleasure, but it works in this set.
The Moths – Valentine
A nice pop song from the UK Moths. Play it for your S.O. next February. But listen to the lyrics, I might be giving you bad advice.
Travis Morrison – As We Proceed
From the one-time leadman of Dismemberment Plan. Less quirky instrumentation and a solid song structure makes me think he’s on the right track. I’m less reminded of Paul Simon with his new stuff, and that’s a good thing.
Bottom of the Hudson – Bee Hive
I had this song picked out last week. Then last weekend, BOTH’s van went off the road on a stretch of Interstate 40 in North Carolina. Bass player Trevor Butler was killed and two other band members were seriously injured. My condolences and wishes for healing and recovery. What a shitty thing to happen to a promising group.
Great Northern – Home
Sounds like we wish home would feel all the time. At least it does sometimes.
The Thrills – This Year (form Teenager)
Well, another great pop song. I like tracks like this, but who knows if they’ll be listenable in a decade. I’m just not sure how important a song like this is. How hard people work to make a hit and how disposable the vast majority are. And on that down note, I’ll leave you for another week and leave you with this shot of JellyBean in her hot waitress outfit. I couldn’t help but stare, but hey, at least I admit it.

OMG you are SO staring at JellyBean’s ass!
Let him, Myg.;) I would stare too.;))She looks gorgeous. Nice picture.
@Myg - Babe, I’m staring at her *hands*. Sure, her hands are on her ass, but can I help that?
No I was staring too!
Dangit! I missed Sable in argyle?? I could’ve worn my argyle and danced with her! Or beside her. Well, maybe. Who am I kidding, she would’ve dissed me.
But that’s okay, because at Clockwork, the music makes up for it.
Oh, and when this set dropped Metric -> Minus the Bear -> Yeah Yeah Yeahs -> Tegan and Sara?? That was just stupid fresh, yo! Couldn’t wait for this podcast to be posted.
@Wrath–I think Sable would dance with you. Though she does have the very-hot-chick-who-dances-by-herself thing going on. I suspect she goes home with the DJ. Oops, I mean the DJ’s girlfriend. Or the other DJ. Not me. *wipes brow.
no, it was me she went home with.
I knew it! Those simultaneous ‘crashes’ were just a bit too coincidental.
Now to get Myg into some kickin’ argyle…
Nice snap of Sable, boss.
Shhhh….Myg! We uh crashed remember?
Thanks for the Placebo Alex!! *kisses*
